30 Poems for Artists: Kajanne Pepper

Live Art, Poetry, Yleinen

In the inspiring artist residency of Ponderosa, Germany, I wrote one poem for each fellow artist, curator and worker at the residency. The poems were then performed at a Poet’s Reception on 2nd October 2014.
Kaj-anne Pepper is a stunningly talented performer from Oregon, the USA. I had the chance to work with him in Ponderosa for two weeks, experimenting with ideas about creating a performance in a group of four artists. Working with Pepper was such a trip – he gave me a tour in the world of his work as a drag queen, and I hope I got the chance to give something in return. Pepper is a skillful, sensitive and multi-faceted artist, so please stay up to date about what he’s doing!

Your words are fast and your mind is curious

You seem colorful and furious

You do drag and fag and make it all up

by being as cute as an electric pup!

So please give me the lipstick now

so we can be sassy, and the crowd goes: WOW!

Live Art, Yleinen

In the inspiring artist residency of Ponderosa, Germany, I wrote one poem for each fellow artist, curator and worker at the residency. The poems were then performed at a Poet’s Reception on 2nd October 2014.

Johanna Gilje works with video, installation and performance art. She brings theory and practice together dynamically, engaging you into detailed and inspiring conversations, or maybe a crazy improv dance session with laughter.

Poem nr. 7

Style and attitude, the grace of a venus

when we jammed, I wish I could have seen us

I like your way,

a city woman with some hay

in the hair

You always play a game that is fair

30 Poems for Artists: Verena van der Berg

Live Art, Visual Art, Yleinen

In the inspiring artist residency of Ponderosa, Germany, in autumn 2014, I wrote one poem for each fellow artist, curator and worker at the residency. The poems were then performed at a Poet’s Reception on 2nd October 2014.

Today, it is the turn of Verena van der Berg from Netherlands. She is a very perceptive and truly multi-talented artist. She works using her body as a dancer and performer, she makes images – drawings and paintings – and also works with film, installation and ceramics. For her, the world is a place full of beauty and inspiration.

Poem nr. 3

Nicely cuddled inside your softness

you lightfully play,

and gracefully say

things that wake up the dormant –

you are as welcome as a morning.

ConVERGE Artist Residency at Ponderosa

Live Art, Poetry

ConVERGE Artist Residency at Ponderosa, Germany in September-October 2014 is an artist residency for performing artists. Ponderosa in North-East Germany hosts especially dancers and choreographers. In ConVERGE, we get to explore what we can do with our bodies and words with each other. What happens when a dancing poet meets a poetic dancer?

Con|VERGE offers interdisciplinary performance artists a chance to come together to make new, collaborative performance work. The intention of the residency is to make available time and space for creating new work, meeting and collaborating with other performance makers, and sharing skills, reflecting on process, and critiquing work with peers.

Vastakaiku – Genklang: Group exhibition, collaboration of poets and illustrators

Visual Art

Poets and illustrators gather together repeatedly during one year in 2014 to collaborate. In the start, no one knew how the collaboration would be done. The ways of working got clarified along the way through practice, as well as the questions about who works with who. We ended up having lots of fun together, matching poems and pictures, finding words for tempting images, creating images on the base of poetry. Some even got to choose between two poems to pair one’s illustration.
Our August 12.-17.2014 exhibition in Lasipalatsin Akkuna, Helsinki, consists of fewer works than we actually made or started, so that means we are going to continue the work after this year.  Be welcome to the opening on 12th August 5-7 pm!
