Keho ja kirjoittaminen

ENGLISH BELOW

Ponderosan ConVerge-taiteilijaresidenssissä, Saksassa, pidin kaikille avoimen työpajan ”Writing and the Body”. Työpajan tavoitteena oli lähestyä luovan kirjoittamisen prosessia liikkeen tekemisen kautta.

Lämmittelyosuuteen kuului ohjattu tanssi-improvisaatio, jonka intensiteetti kasvoi loppua kohden.

Writing and the Body

In October 2014, in ConVerge artist residency, Ponderosa, Germany, I held a workshop with the topic Writing and the Body. Together with the participants, we explored how we could awaken our verbal sensitivity through movement. We warmed up our bodies by improv dance movements, starting on the floor and gradually building up the intensity of it, and then stopped after some 20 minutes of movement, keeping our eyes closed.

We then moved on to free stream-of-consciousness speaking, where I would help the participants by writing down their words. After this output phase, the process moved on to active writing. We contracted short poems of 5 words, and to help the process, the rule was to use at least one of the stream-of-consciousness words in each poem.

After the writing process, we warmed up our vocal chords and performed to each other. The group was open and everyone came up with some amazing creative output.

30 Poems for Artists: Micheál Rowsome

Live Art, Poetry, Yleinen

In the inspiring artist residency of Ponderosa, Germany, I wrote one poem for each fellow artist, curator and worker at the residency. The poems were then performed at a Poet’s Reception on 2nd October 2014.

Micheál was a cheerful fellow artist in Ponderosa, with a peculiar character and thought. He seemed to fall in love with anything prescious around him, be it working in the garden with broccoli, creating birthday surprises to others (we had many birthday parties during that 2 week time!) or finding the essence of any suitable form of art. Micheál is an artist with many talents and a very open attitude, and I’m sure it is the attitude that will take him far. For him, though, ”far” may as well mean the same as ”close”. I’m also looking forward to seeing what will happen when he gets up on the stage with a microphone again; as that truly seems to be the place for him. He is both a stand-up comedian and a philosophical analyst of life and all thing beyond.

How can you be so funny and cunning

Copper-headed and humor-sensing

with a peculiar gaze and thought

And you get interviewed quite a lot?

30 Poems for Artists: Elizabeth Ardent

Live Art, Poetry, Yleinen

In the inspiring artist residency of Ponderosa, Germany, I wrote one poem for each fellow artist, curator and worker at the residency. The poems were then performed at a Poet’s Reception on 2nd October 2014.

Elizabeth attended ConVerge artist residency in Ponderosa with me. It was pleasant to watch her work, and I immediately got a glimpse of her being intelligent and playful. Now that is a perfect combination for a dance artist with a broad interest in different aspects of performing, right?

The look on your face

is both pretty and thoughtful

But so far I’m not sure

which strings to pull

When I look at you I find myself waiting

for a clever line

with no anticipating!

30 Poems for Artists: Christopher Owen

Live Art, Poetry, Yleinen

In the inspiring artist residency of Ponderosa, Germany, I wrote one poem for each fellow artist, curator and worker at the residency. The poems were then performed at a Poet’s Reception on 2nd October 2014.

Christopher Owen is a dancer with a great interest and love for music and rhythm. Other than dancing, he plays different instruments, creates new ones out of any object and makes songs. As a dancer, he appears very creative, playful and strong. In Ponderosa, I had the chance to play around with sound and music together with this multi-talented artist. Of course, dancing with this amazing talent was also sheer bliss.
Christopher is attending an artist residency in Dance4, Nottingham in January, 2015.

Play your notes on a row

and slide on them like a surfer.

Holding a guitar, yelling slightly

Put that smile of yours on just anything

and you’ll turn it to rubies, so lightly

‘Cause I think if you had any flaws

they’d be soft as a cat’s paws

30 Poems for Artists: Tara Rynders

Yleinen

In the inspiring artist residency of Ponderosa, Germany, I wrote one poem for each fellow artist, curator and worker at the residency. The poems were then performed at a Poet’s Reception on 2nd October 2014.

Here’s the poem for Tara Rynders, an astonishingly beautiful choreographer, dancer, performer and overall artist who engages the audience into private, personal, beautiful encounters with the performers in her works. She is the artistic director of You&Me, and she worked in Ponderosa together with a skillful artist crew, leaving no one cold after the showings. The collaboration gave the work a lot of warmth and spirit.

Someone might have taken a ladder

climbing up on the sky

Taken down a pair of stars

to be framed by your hair

And as they shine on your face

you dance on, like it was a race

You know there’s beauty around

– that’s what you’re speaking out loud

30 Poems for Artists: Kata Kovács

Live Art, Poetry, Yleinen

In the inspiring artist residency of Ponderosa, Germany, in autumn 2014, I wrote one poem for each fellow artist, curator and worker at the residency. The poems were then performed at a Poet’s Reception on 2nd October 2014.

Today, it is the turn of Kata Kovács, one of the curator of ConVERGE artist residency. She is a dancer and coreographer.

Poem nr 6.

Where are you, Kata?

Wish you were here

Our art is something

I think you’d hold dear

Come see the Saturday show,

see us glow

Cause on Sunday,

we might be a little slow

30 Poems for Artists: Agnė Auželytė

Live Art

In the inspiring artist residency of Ponderosa, Germany, in autumn 2014, I wrote one poem for each fellow artist, curator and worker at the residency. The poems were then performed at a Poet’s Reception on 2nd October 2014.

Today, it is the turn of Agnė Auželytė, a special Lithuanian lady, a dancer and performer, with a great peculiar sense of humour. Her performances as a musician give the audience a warm and funny feeling, yet they also ooze with deep emotional content. She sings and plays with passion and, for sure, does everything else with passion as well.

Poem nr. 4

Could I take those eyes

and frame them

and tame them

and put them on the wall?

The eyebrows would go too

That’s quite well for describing you.

ConVERGE Artist Residency at Ponderosa

Live Art, Poetry

ConVERGE Artist Residency at Ponderosa, Germany in September-October 2014 is an artist residency for performing artists. Ponderosa in North-East Germany hosts especially dancers and choreographers. In ConVERGE, we get to explore what we can do with our bodies and words with each other. What happens when a dancing poet meets a poetic dancer?

http://www.ponderosa-dance.de/en/tanzland-festival/converge.html

Con|VERGE offers interdisciplinary performance artists a chance to come together to make new, collaborative performance work. The intention of the residency is to make available time and space for creating new work, meeting and collaborating with other performance makers, and sharing skills, reflecting on process, and critiquing work with peers.
