30 Poems for Artists: Deborah Black

Live Art, Poetry, Yleinen

In the inspiring artist residency of Ponderosa, Germany, I wrote one poem for each fellow artist, curator and worker at the residency. The poems were then performed at a Poet’s Reception on 2nd October 2014.
Deborah was one of those fellow artists who engaged you into long and analytic conversations during the residency. She is a dancer who is very much into writing, and in my workshop ”Writing and the Body” she showed us she has got talent in creative writing.  I’m looking forward to seeing what she brings out in the world, no matter what the discipline.

Your smile is not noisy at all

But your giggling

sounds like a bouncing ball

Under that intelligent smile

I see there must be a lot that’s worthwhile

You can interview me

if you see

there would be

something for thee

30 Poems for Artists: Frankie Snowdon

Live Art, Poetry

In the inspiring artist residency of Ponderosa, Germany, I wrote one poem for each fellow artist, curator and worker at the residency. The poems were then performed at a Poet’s Reception on 2nd October 2014.

This time we have Frankie Snowdon. Hey, this woman definitely deserves some attention! Not only because she is graceful, beautiful and intelligent, but also because she is a real artist. I had the ultimate honor to work with her in Ponderosa in fall 2014 for two enlightening weeks, and she gave me a possibility to learn a lot through observing her working methods and skills as a dancer. In our group of four, we developed a special relationship with one another, and I saw how wonderful it is when one gives all of her presence to the common process of creating a piece of art. It is not easy, girl! The world is yours!

Please see the page of her collective, 2nd Toe!

Curly, spicy, beautiful and strong

you’re a lady that can fly like ping-pong

The balls of your game are nice and pink

and you dance and you think,

you dance and think.

30 Poems for Artists: Tara Rynders

Yleinen

In the inspiring artist residency of Ponderosa, Germany, I wrote one poem for each fellow artist, curator and worker at the residency. The poems were then performed at a Poet’s Reception on 2nd October 2014.

Here’s the poem for Tara Rynders, an astonishingly beautiful choreographer, dancer, performer and overall artist who engages the audience into private, personal, beautiful encounters with the performers in her works. She is the artistic director of You&Me, and she worked in Ponderosa together with a skillful artist crew, leaving no one cold after the showings. The collaboration gave the work a lot of warmth and spirit.

Someone might have taken a ladder

climbing up on the sky

Taken down a pair of stars

to be framed by your hair

And as they shine on your face

you dance on, like it was a race

You know there’s beauty around

– that’s what you’re speaking out loud

Poem nr 6.

Where are you, Kata?

Wish you were here

Our art is something

I think you’d hold dear

Come see the Saturday show,

see us glow

Cause on Sunday,

we might be a little slow
