30 Poems for Artists: Lisa Hayes

Live Art, Poetry, Yleinen

In the inspiring artist residency of Ponderosa, Germany, I wrote one poem for each fellow artist, curator and worker at the residency. The poems were then performed at a Poet’s Reception on 2nd October 2014.
Here’s the poem of Lisa Hayes, an Irish theatre professional from London, and I must say, I had a hard time keeping it short when I wrote the poem. Would’ve wanted to say so much more about this awesome creature! She’s a theatre maker, and you could tell that instantly when she appeared on the metro station in Berlin; she oozes that something that connects her to the present moment and she is definitely very aware of her surroundings all the time. These features were top tools when we worked together in a team during Ponderosa residency. Lisa was open and willing to collaborate, and she brought us a lot of practical knowledge about theatre making and playing. She liked to approach many things through fun. What an amazing attitude that is! Go conquer the world, Lisa!

Oh Lisa, you’re a diamond amongst the ladies

and never mind the shadies

I believe in you

no matter what you do

’Cause the fire in your eyes

tells me you speak no lies

You’re tender and good,

you like to be understood

and I would be the happiest

to be your chap.

30 Poems for Artists: Christopher Owen

Live Art, Poetry, Yleinen

In the inspiring artist residency of Ponderosa, Germany, I wrote one poem for each fellow artist, curator and worker at the residency. The poems were then performed at a Poet’s Reception on 2nd October 2014.

Christopher Owen is a dancer with a great interest and love for music and rhythm. Other than dancing, he plays different instruments, creates new ones out of any object and makes songs. As a dancer, he appears very creative, playful and strong. In Ponderosa, I had the chance to play around with sound and music together with this multi-talented artist. Of course, dancing with this amazing talent was also sheer bliss.
Christopher is attending an artist residency in Dance4, Nottingham in January, 2015.

Play your notes on a row

and slide on them like a surfer.

Holding a guitar, yelling slightly

Put that smile of yours on just anything

and you’ll turn it to rubies, so lightly

‘Cause I think if you had any flaws

they’d be soft as a cat’s paws

30 Poems for Artists: Kajanne Pepper

Live Art, Poetry, Yleinen

In the inspiring artist residency of Ponderosa, Germany, I wrote one poem for each fellow artist, curator and worker at the residency. The poems were then performed at a Poet’s Reception on 2nd October 2014.
Kaj-anne Pepper is a stunningly talented performer from Oregon, the USA. I had the chance to work with him in Ponderosa for two weeks, experimenting with ideas about creating a performance in a group of four artists. Working with Pepper was such a trip – he gave me a tour in the world of his work as a drag queen, and I hope I got the chance to give something in return. Pepper is a skillful, sensitive and multi-faceted artist, so please stay up to date about what he’s doing!

Your words are fast and your mind is curious

You seem colorful and furious

You do drag and fag and make it all up

by being as cute as an electric pup!

So please give me the lipstick now

so we can be sassy, and the crowd goes: WOW!

30 Poems for Artists: Jonny Rowden

Live Art, Poetry

In the inspiring artist residency of Ponderosa, Germany, I wrote one poem for each fellow artist, curator and worker at the residency. The poems were then performed at a Poet’s Reception on 2nd October 2014.

Jonny Rowden is a stunning performer, whose number one strength is his ability to apply his presence to the moment. Whatever he does, he does it with 100% presence, being humble about his skills. His history is full of interesting details, such as working in Brasil – he learnt Portuguese in just a couple of weeks! – and playing football (I think he may say it’s really nothing but I saw him kick the ball like it was his boss’ ass). And he is a chef, too! Stay tuned about Aminal, they make wonderful art, something that moves on the area of theatre but also twists your mind nicely. Tweeting: @_AMINAL

Oh, that blonde hair of yours.

I envy the color of it, of course!

You’re a package with lots

of energy and guts

You’re fun and friendly and cool

and when you see chocolate,

it makes you drool

30 Poems for Artists: Adi Brief

Yleinen

In the inspiring artist residency of Ponderosa, Germany, I wrote one poem for each fellow artist, curator and worker at the residency. The poems were then performed at a Poet’s Reception on 2nd October 2014.

This one was made for Adi Brief, a person who has worked hard during years to establish the beautiful residency of Ponderosa. She has seen the place being born, its buildings going through a total renovation, and the community around it evolve and develop. She takes good care of it all, including the garden, and during my stay, appeared as a comfort-bringing household fairy for all of the guests.

Workfully working, joking, lurking

You’ve got it all for a smooth ride

You’ve got your smiles and we llke

the way you commit without a vomit

and do know how dreams

really do come true.

30 Poems for Artists: Tara Rynders

Yleinen

In the inspiring artist residency of Ponderosa, Germany, I wrote one poem for each fellow artist, curator and worker at the residency. The poems were then performed at a Poet’s Reception on 2nd October 2014.

Here’s the poem for Tara Rynders, an astonishingly beautiful choreographer, dancer, performer and overall artist who engages the audience into private, personal, beautiful encounters with the performers in her works. She is the artistic director of You&Me, and she worked in Ponderosa together with a skillful artist crew, leaving no one cold after the showings. The collaboration gave the work a lot of warmth and spirit.

Someone might have taken a ladder

climbing up on the sky

Taken down a pair of stars

to be framed by your hair

And as they shine on your face

you dance on, like it was a race

You know there’s beauty around

– that’s what you’re speaking out loud

Poem nr. 7

Style and attitude, the grace of a venus

when we jammed, I wish I could have seen us

I like your way,

a city woman with some hay

in the hair

You always play a game that is fair

Poem nr 6.

Where are you, Kata?

Wish you were here

Our art is something

I think you’d hold dear

Come see the Saturday show,

see us glow

Cause on Sunday,

we might be a little slow

Poem nr 5.

I left your party with a scrunted face

and you may wonder why

But my heart was simply just misplaced

and I did start to cry

when you sang that song the funeral “so long”

That’s when my tears fell down.
